Scope and Contents
This collection contains the biographies and interviews for the Trumpet Awards honorees. In addition, there are programs and invitations from the first few years of the Trumpet awards.There are tapes of interviews with a few of the honorees. The televised verision of two of the Trumpet Awards programs is also part of the collection.

Biographical / Historical
Turner Broadcasting, Inc. created the Trumpet Awards in 1993 to herald the accomplishments of African Americans who have succeeded against immense odds. Turner Broadcasting wanted to demostrate total community involvement, global respect for all humanity and it commitment to diversity by celebrating the accomplishments of men and women of all cultures who have significantly contributed to enhancing the quality of life for all Americans. Potential honorees are selected because they have acheived success in a chosen profession or career through longevity and consistency. They are chosen not only for their individual achievements but for the achievement they inspire in others.
The honorees identified in this collection are from a wide variety of professions such as Music, Sports, Medicine, Government servic and private industry just to name a few.
Although originally presented by Turner Broadcasting, the awards are now presented by the Trumpet Awards Foundation founded by Xernona Clayton.
