Scope and Contents

The Mount Olive Baptist Church Collection contains programs from the various services conducted at Mount Olive Baptist church. The programs includes Anniversary celebrations, Pastors' Installation and Anniversary celebrations, Men's and Women's Day and Acheivement programs, programs from musical events as well as progrmas from toher churches. There also also cheurch records included in the collection.

Biographical / Historical

Mount Olive Baptist Church was founded on March 11, 1885, with Rev. W.R. Clements serving as the first pastor. The church's initial site was chosen by a committee in the Northeast section of Atlanta, at the corner of Harris and Butler streets. The first church building was a wood frame structure. After 1920, the church was rebuilt with a brick edifice. In 1955, Mount Olive Baptist Church moved to its current location at the corner of Martin Luther King Drive and Barfield Avenue, where a new church building was completed.
