Scope and Contents
The Nancy Boxill Papers documents her life as a Fulton County Commissioner, including documentation of her efforts to advocate change in areas of gender equity, human trafficking and child advocacy. There are articles and press releases documenting her activities during her terms as a Commissioner.
The collection also includes her speeches, resolutions that she sponsored and awards and certificates she received during her years on the Fulton County Board of Commisioners.

Biographical / Historical
Dr. Nancy Boxill served as the Fulton County (Georgia) Commissioner representing District 6 for 23 years. She began her political career being appointed by the governor of Georgia in 1987 to serve as interim commissioner. She subsequently ran for the office and was elected in June 1988. She continued to be elected each term until she announced her retirement in 2010. Dr. Boxill has been a leader in local national and international social justice and social change movements in the areas of gender equity, human trafficking, child advocacy, and matters of poverty and inclusion. Serving as a local elected official she has authored and successfully shepherded numerous legislative advances for women and children in the areas of child care, child development, and health care for women and children. She served as chair to the National Black Arts festival Board of Directors, chair to the Fulton/Atlanta Land Bank Authority; vice chair to the Atlanta/Fulton County Recreation Authority and member of the Atlanta Development Authority.
