Biographical / Historical

Winnie Walker Nixon was born April 1, 1904 and died May 3, 1994. She was born in Screven County, Georgia to Harry and Maggie Walker. She was the eighth of fourteen children.

Her primary occupation was farming. She married Jessie Nixon and they had no children. She served as secretary for Bethel A.M.E. Church and Thomas Chapel A.M.E. Church in Egypt, GA. She recorded much of her work in ledgers. Later in life, she and Jesse moved their membership to Nixon Chapel Holiness Church, which was built on their property.
