Historical Sketch

Lisa Ann Pertillar-Brevard (1968 - ) is an African-American scholar and artist. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Smith College in 1991 and her Ph.D. in 1995 from Emory University. Since the summer of 1995 she has been a postdoctoral fellow and research associate in the Afro-American Studies Program at the University of Maryland at College Park. Her areas of interest are African-American sacred music and literature and Women's studies.

Mrs. Pertillar-Brevard has been cited in Who's Who Among American Women in 1993 and 1995 and has contributed to several publications on African-American music traditions.
