Scope and Content Note
This collection, which was donated to the Auburn Avenue Research Library by Marguerite F. Simon in 1995, is an assortment of periodicals, books, sheet music and news clippings. One of the highlights of the collection is Martin Luther King, Jr. 1929-1965: An Ebony Picture Biography, a 76 p. paperback book published just after his untimely death that covers the life of Dr. King and has many wonderful photographs from the Civil Rights Movement.

Marguerite F. Simon, daughter of Edward Lee and Laura Dickerson Simon, graduate of Spelman (1935), and instructor of health and physical education at Spelman from 1943 to 1980.

The sheet music dates from 1906 to 1932, and the articles, books, and newsclippings, dated from 1968 to 1985, treat Martin Luther King, Jr., Spelman College, Atlanta University, African American life, and history.

Provenance
Ms. Simon has donated this collection of materials in honor of her parents: Edward Lee and Laura Dickerson Simon. Mr.Edward Lee Simon was an early 1900's graduate of Atlanta University. He was also a print shop owner in Memphis, Tennessee where the publication The Moon (magazine), W.E. B. Dubois, editor, was printed in the 1920's. Mrs. Laura Dickerson Simon was a graduate of LeMoyne Normal Institute, Memphis, Tennessee and became an educator in the Memphis area.
